Life Blog - Are You a Strong Independent Women?

Why do we do it to ourselves?

We feel such a weight of being independent and not to burden those around us, that we forget that we would be there for our friends and family in a heartbeat. And they would be there for us if we gave them a chance.

I recently caught up with some friends that I hadn’t seen in ages. They were all strong independent women who I saw as achieving balance in their lives.

But during the conversation, each of them told me how they had been through unbearable stress over the last couple of months. One had been diagnosed with cancer, another had been bed ridden with Covid, and another was being harassed at work. When I asked them why they hadn’t reached out, every single one of them said they didn’t want to be a burden. They admitted they felt guilty asking for help. And sure enough, each of them said they wished they had known their friends needed help so that they could be there for them.

Achieving balance doesn’t mean you will never experience stress or bad things in your life. And being a strong and independent woman doesn’t mean that you have to do everything by yourself.

If you are struggling there are people around you that can help if you ask. We live in a community so we can support each other to be strong. You don’t have to feel afraid or guilty if you need help. Instead, feel empowered! You are strong and wise to recognise when something is too much and you need help!
